Teaching Philosophy

My teaching practice is rooted in a strong dedication to education and a deep belief in the importance of visual art as a core part of our world. Everything around us, from the clothes we wear to the homes we live in and the objects we use, has been shaped by an artist or designer. This belief informs my approach to teaching and my desire to help students recognise the relevance of art in everyday life.

As both an artist and an educator, I aim to create engaging, exploratory learning experiences that allow students to explore the full range of artistic possibilities available to them. I encourage learners to experiment across materials, processes and ideas, helping them to discover their strengths and interests while developing confidence in their creative abilities

I am committed to fostering a welcoming, supportive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and encouraged to participate. I strive to maintain an open, problem solving classroom culture where challenges and creative blocks are seen as opportunities for growth. By guiding students through difficulties and offering multiple pathways to success, I support them in building resilience and independence.

Through my experience working in both mainstream and SEN classroom settings, I have developed a flexible and student centred approach to teaching. I believe it is essential to adapt learning to meet diverse needs while maintaining high expectations for all learners.

Ultimately, I hope to open students’ minds to the wide range of opportunities within the art, craft and design fields, encouraging them to see creative practice not only as a form of expression but also as a potential pathway to further study and future careers.
